El 4 de marzo de 2019, Arsenal recibió a Swansea City en Meadow Park por la Premier League 2. Freddie Ljungberg’s Gunners currently sit seventh in the table but, with a game in hand, could leapfrog Chelsea and Liverpool into fifth if they overcome the competition’s bottom side.
Swansea had won just three of their 17 games all season and occupied the bottom position in the 12-team table, but had proved in their last match, a 2-0 win at Chelsea, that they could be a match for anyone in the youth league.

Desarrollo del partido de la Premier League 2
Arsenal’s first real chance of the game came through Saka, who cut infield and fired just wide. Amaechi very nearly got to the ball as it crossed the line, but with too much pace.
There was no real cohesion in the Arsenal frontline early on, with Thompson particularly struggling to create much as a No.10. That meant Saka, John-Jules and Amaechi were largely chasing long balls against a disciplined Swansea defence.
Swansea asked the questions early on. A rasping cross-shot from King down the right forced Iliev to parry smartly into a safe area, while Blake stood over a free-kick in the left channel that John-Jules flicked to safety at the front post.
Amaechi gave Swansea all sorts of trouble down the right. He drove outside before playing the ball infield to Sheaf, who tried to curl it into the far post from distance but fired over.
Medley and Ballard tripped each other up while chasing a Swansea counter down the right, giving Cooper the chance to fire in a dangerous ball. Iliev did well to make sure he was first to it.
An intriguing tactical switch from Ljungberg saw Osei-Tutu move to the left flank and Pleguezuelo to the right. Arsenal had been getting a lot of joy going forward on that flank but their left side was looking vulnerable.
It was not vintage fare from either side at the time, with a lot of long balls being played in one direction and another and few of them with much of an intended target. This was not the sort of football commonly associated with Arsenal and Swansea.
The referee appeared to have pulled up with an injury, causing a lengthy delay while the fourth official got ready. After the interruption, the match restarted.
Cullen got the ball on the left corner of the area and let fly, forcing Iliev to make a big save. After much difficulty, Arsenal eventually cleared the corner.
A fine curling strike from Liam Cullen gave the visitors the lead. There was nothing Iliev could do about it.
Swansea doubled their advantage before half-time when a free-kick was curled in superbly from Blake. Ljungberg was unhappy with decisions he felt his team were not getting and with the physical treatment Swansea were allowed to give their forwards.
Arsenal returned for the second half with a change, as Tyreece John-Jules was replaced by Folarin Balogun. Swansea went close again when a fine cross by King was flicked onto the roof of the net by Cullen.
Thompson had a difficult start to the half for Arsenal, possibly still affected by an injury picked up in the first half. Swansea pressed him whenever he got the ball in defence.
The pressure from Arsenal began to grow. A brilliant run down the right by Amaechi excited the crowd, although Swansea dealt with the cross. Balogun then drifted in behind but could only force a corner that Swansea goalkeeper Zabret claimed convincingly.
Amaechi’s cross eventually reached Balogun, who controlled and spun before Swansea just managed to hack the ball away on their own goal line.
A free-kick from Amaechi struck the net, but the scoreline remained 0-2. The crowd were on their feet, although the ball had hit the wrong part of the net.
Balogun halved the deficit with a brilliant goal. He let the ball slip between his legs to beat two defenders, powered infield and fired a low shot at goal; it took a major deflection to beat the Swansea goalkeeper.
Tormey then completed Arsenal’s comeback by beating several players down the right and firing in at the near post. There were four minutes of normal time left as the Gunners searched for a winner.
Swansea were reduced to ten men after a second booking for Lewis, and the pressure was all on them in the closing stages. Arsenal had a corner and momentum was on their side, while Swansea had everyone back defending the box.
Six minutes of added time were played. An unmarked Osei-Tutu met a corner but flicked his header over, while Gilmour struck a shot sweetly only to see it flash a few inches over.
Arsenal completed a stirring comeback, but fell just short of finding a winner. The match ended Arsenal 2-2 Swansea.
